Eating good and tasty meals helps to keep you healthy. There are several foods you can eat but there are just a few that can always appeal to you even when you are not hungry. Salmon Chowder is one of such foods. It originated in New England and was popularly called a poor man’s food because of the simple ingredients it needed for preparation.

The ingredients for this nutritious meal include butter, sliced onion, chopped celery, garlic powder or fresh garlic, potatoes, carrots, salt, black pepper, dried dill weed, about two cans of salmon, evaporated milk, creamed corn and cheese. Cheese isn’t compulsory so go ahead with the preparation if it is not available. Actually, some people prefer the delicacy without cheese.

The butter is melted in a big pot over mild heat. Turn the onion, celery, onions and garlic into the melted butter and fry for some minutes until the mixture is soft. After this, add your potatoes, carrots, dill, pepper, broth and salt to improve the taste. Transfer to another pot where the entire mixture will be cooked slowly below boiling point. This step should take about 20 minutes after which the resulting mixture is stirred continuously with salmon, corn, cheese and evaporated milk. This final stage should take less than ten minutes. Even if you are doing it the first time, your salmon chowder should be ready in less than an hour if you are committed to it.

Salmon chowder is enriched with lots of vitamins and minerals. It is also a good source of energy and preferred to other carbohydrate foods because it is easily digestible. Salmon Chowder can be served hot or cold with bread or salad. It’s a valuable recipe throughout the year especially during the winter when it is taken as hot soup.
